What is Hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is the process of mixing seed, fertilizer, and wood or paper mulch with water. These items are mixed in a large tank and then sprayed onto designated lawn areas. Germination of the seed begins with the contact of water, which in turn is then suspended in the mulch slurry. When sprayed onto the soil, the mulch seals in moisture and holds the seed and soil in place.
The benefits of hydroseeding include:
-
Economical (1/2 the cost of sod)
-
Creates a stronger root base
-
Grows healthier and greener
-
Great for Erosion Control
-
Less watering demands
-
Fast and less labor intensive application
There are a few tasks required to prepare a site for hydroseeding:
-
Remove existing grass and weeds and if necessary use a non selective herbicide to kill unwanted weeds.
-
Till the area to a depth of 4-6 inches. If using topsoil, use a minimum of 4 inch base.
-
Grade and level the area removing any debris, rocks or sticks.
-
Roll area for a smooth, slightly compact surface.
-
Gently rake surface.
When the site is ready for the Hydroseeding Application, SCAPES & CO. will require access to the site as well as access to a water source. We will use the highest quality seed and provide a professional application from our knowlegable, experienced staff.
